Our research project focuses on the development of legal and operational instruments to answer to the phenomena of girls abducted by, or associated to, armed groups.
Children Rights
Girls are often invisible and they are rarely mention as a specific demographic group and when they are it is not enough. They face discrimination and abuse simply for being young and female.
Girls' rights are human rights and they need to be targeted as a specific group under children rights, woman rights, human rights according to Human Rights Law, Humanitarian International Law and also International Criminal law when needed.
Child Soldiers
"Thousands of children are recruited and used in armed conflicts across the world. Often referred to as “child soldiers,” these boys and girls suffer extensive forms of exploitation and abuse that are not fully captured by that term. Warring parties use children not only as fighters, but as scouts, cooks, porters, guards, messengers and more. Many, especially girls, are also subjected to gender-based violence", UNICEF
