Dr. Claribel de Castro Sánchez
Claribel de Castro Sánchez is a prominent scholar and expert in Public International Law and International Relations. Since joining the Faculty of Law at UNED in 1998, she has made an indelible mark in both academic and professional realms. Her dedication to teaching and research has been recognized nationally and internationally.
Graduating in Law from UNED, Claribel furthered her education by earning a doctorate from the same institution, defending an innovative thesis titled "Armed Actions for Humanitarian Reasons: Towards Humanitarian Intervention? A Theoretical-Practical Approach" in 2003. This research not only earned her the extraordinary doctoral award from UNED but also the prestigious Defense Award granted by the Ministry of Defense in 2004.
Throughout her career, she has served as a professor in a variety of subjects both in undergraduate and postgraduate programs, addressing crucial topics such as Public International Law, International Human Rights Protection, and European Union Institutions. Her teaching experience extends to multiple master's and postgraduate courses, where she has shared her vast knowledge with students from various disciplines, ranging from security to social work.
She does not confine herself solely to the academic sphere but has also collaborated closely with institutions such as the Spanish Red Cross, the Pontifical University of Comillas, and the General Directorate of Penitentiary Institutions, among others, contributing to training and capacity-building in various sectors.
Claribel is not only a prolific researcher but also a committed academic leader. She has participated in numerous research projects funded by various entities, serving as principal investigator in several of them. Her work has led to the publication of two monographs and more than seventy book chapters and articles, establishing her as an authority in topics related to security, human rights, and international law.
In addition to her outstanding work as a teacher and researcher, Claribel has held roles in academic management, serving as Deputy Secretary General for Legal Affairs at UNED and Vice Dean of Faculty and Academic Organization at the Faculty of Law at UNED.
Her excellence and dedication have not gone unnoticed, as evidenced by the recognition she received in 2017 with the Cross for Merit of the Civil Guard with a white insignia, as well as her inclusion in the Expert Group on Higher Education at CEPOL since December 2022.
